City of Anniston officials have called a town hall-style meeting for Tuesday at Cane Creek Golf Course to address their plans for the 18-hole facility and the recent concerns of local golfers have expressed about its operation. The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. in the golf course’s 19th Hole Grill, and organizers expect it to last no more than two hours.

Aces wild at Cane Creek
The third hole at Cane Creek Golf Course saw a lot of action this month. Anniston’s Terry Preston, 65, scored a hole-in-one there playing with regular weekend partners Mike Fincher, Bill Fincher and Bobby Hunter. He used an 8-iron from 123 yards and watched the ball disappear into the cup after two bounces.

If the Odds vs. Evens Shootout continues beyond this year, the Evens will have a dynasty to defend. The Evens scored five points in Sunday’s singles matches and won the Shootout for the second consecutive year with an 11.5-4.5 victory against the Odds at Cane Creek Golf Course.

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — Freeman Fite had to wait all day to learn whether his stay at the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship would extend beyond the weekend, but he was rewarded for his patience. The 30-year-old Anniston resident, playing in his biggest tournament in eight years, made it through to match play at the Kiawah Island Club.
