JSU gets up and running JACKSONVILLE — The first day of spring practice is supposed to be the first step toward preparing a college football team for the fall — but given Wednesday’s conditions, this opening day might have given the Gamecocks a taste for a reward that could await them much later in the year. “Like we’re preparing to play in Montana for the playoffs, that’s what it felt like out there,” said Gamecocks coach Jack Crowe, who fought off the chill in a black toboggan. “It was a lot colder than the temperature. It put a chill in you, that’s for sure, but they didn’t flinch. They’re a lot closer to playing in it than I am. I’d have been shaking.”
