Northern Calhoun County continues under a tornado warning until 4 p.m., according to a bulletin issued by the National Weather Service office in Birmingham.

A storm now moving northeast through St. Clair County is expected to cross into northern Calhoun County near Ohatchee. The storm's track seem to indicate it will pass well north of Anniston, Oxford and Jacksonville. Communities near the border with Etowah County lie more directly in the storm's path.

At 3:19 p.m., the weather service said, a trained storm spotter saw a funnel cloud in the storm near Ashville.

As a large area of unsettled weather moves east across the state, the weather service has placed 31 Alabama counties, including Calhoun, Clay, Cleburne, Cherokee, Etowah, Randolph, St. Clair and Talladega, under a tornado watch until 9 p.m.

A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the formation of tornadoes. A warning means a tornado has been spotted or is believed to have formed in a specific area.
