Anniston police are searching for a man they say tried to rob a woman Sunday evening while she was in her car at the intersection of Eulaton Road and North Hunter Street.

The 31-year-old woman was sitting in her Suzuki SUV at the stop sign at that intersection at 7:30 p.m., when a man she didn’t recognize walked up to the car and tried to rob her, police said.

The man opened the driver-side door, grabbed the woman’s arm, swore at her and told her to get out off the car.

Instead, the woman told police, she calmly put her car in park, snatched the hood of the man’s sweatshirt and punched him repeatedly in the face, Capt. Richard Smith said.

The man ran away after that, and the woman filed a police report, noting that she had a cut on her hand from punching the suspect.

Police plan to charge the man with felony, third-degree robbery when they find him, Smith said.
