Based on the first game of Jacksonville State’s Virginia road trip, VMI’s personality could mean bad news for the Gamecocks when they face one of the nation’s highest scoring teams tonight in Lexington, Va.

The Keydets put up 120 points on UVA-Wise on Tuesday night, pulling away in the second half. They average 106.7 a game, 58 in the second half.

The Gamecocks scored only 53 against Norfolk State Tuesday night. Guess when they had the most trouble?

“This year, our identity is going to be a second-half team,” VMI coach Duggar Baucom said. “That was our goal coming into this year.”

The Keydets scored 52 points in the second half Tuesday night, including going 19-for-20 from the foul line. They are off to their first 3-0 start since 1985-86.

JSU, meanwhile, is coming off a rough second half in Norfolk. The Gamecocks went seven minutes without a field goal early in the half, falling behind 13 in a game that was tied at halftime.

The Gamecocks (1-1) have lost 23 of their last 25 on the road, but have beaten VMI the last two times they played.
