Most roads had opened Tuesday, but Anniston and some other local cities re-closed their streets after sundown, as temperatures dipped toward 20 degrees, leading to fears of widespread icing.
Icy patches remained on some streets this morning, but apparently not enough to warrant keeps the roads closed.
The Calhoun County Emergency management agency this morning reported that:
• All streets in the cities of Jacksonville, Weaver, Oxford, and Piedmont are open, though drivers are urged to use caution.
• In Anniston, all streets except for McDaniel Drive and Crestview Road are open.
• Road conditions for streets maintained by the Calhoun County Highway Department have improved but Bains Gap Road and Cottaquilla Road remain closed.
• Road conditions on the state highways have improved but caution is still advised when using these roads.
All schools in Calhoun County remain closed today, along with Gadsden State Community College. Jacksonville State University plans to re-open at noon, with classes resuming at 12:30 p.m.
