Best Picture
Nominees: Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, The King’s Speech, 127 Hours, The Social Network, Toy Story 3, True Grit, Winter’s Bone
Who will win: My gut is telling me to ignore all this momentum that is swinging the way of The King’s Speech and go with The Social Network. And I think that’s how I’m going to go ... The Social Network for the win.
Dark horse: The Fighter
Who should win: The Social Network
Best Actor
Nominees: Javier Bardem, Biutiful; Jeff Bridges, True Grit; Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network; Colin Firth, The King’s Speech; James Franco, 127 Hours
Who will win: Firth. Not a whole lot to say about his performance; just consider me very surprised if he doesn’t win. Plus, he totally got hosed last year.
Dark horse: Not sure if I should say everyone else because if anyone but Firth wins they came out of left field or no one else because no one else even has an outside shot.
Who should win: Firth.
Best Actress
Nominees: Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right; Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole; Jennifer Lawrence, Winter’s Bone; Natalie Portman, Black Swan; Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine
Who will win: This one couldn’t be more cliché. It’s between the seasoned veteran Bening and the up-and-coming Portman.
Honestly, it could be either, especially sense Bening deserves one right now and voters might be swayed by her resume more than her most recent performance.
However, I’m going to go with Portman because Black Swan has to get some award and this one will be the easiest for the Academy to swallow. I just hope she doesn’t make another terrible joke and laugh awkwardly at it again.
Best Supporting Actor
Nominees: Christian Bale, The Fighter; John Hawkes, Winter’s Bone; Jeremy Renner, The Town; Mark Ruffalo, The Kids Are All Right; Geoffrey Rush, The King’s Speech
Who will win: Bale seems to have this one in the bag. If I were a betting man, well I’d probably make some money off this pick.
Best Supporting Actress
Nominees: Amy Adams, The Fighter; Helena Bonham Carter, The King’s Speech; Melissa Leo, The Fighter; Hailee Steinfeld, True Grit; Jacki Weaver, Animal Kingdom
Who will win: This is probably the hardest pick for me, but I’m going to go with my gut and say Adams. Why? I’m not really sure myself, all of these performances were great, and Adams and Leo are getting the most buzz right now.
Dark horse: Carter
Best Director
Nominees: Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan; Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, True Grit; David Fincher, The Social Network; Tom Hooper, The King’s Speech; David O’Russell, The Fighter
Who will win: Fincher is too overdue and, honestly, I just think he deserves it the most.
Who should win: Well, other than Christopher Nolan, who got snubbed, I’m going to say Aronofsky, but he won’t because he’s still too far out there for the Academy’s tastes.
