Clayton Lavaughn Richmond, 45, of Anniston, was arrested at 5:30 a.m. Saturday at the Shell service station at the intersection of Quintard Avenue and Alabama 202. He is charged with first-degree theft of property.
Two family members from a household on Gurnee Avenue, where the 1999 Honda Passport was stolen around 5 a.m., found Richmond with the car at the station and detained him while they called the police. The family members, Sheryl Adams and Ronnie Mace, said Richmond told them he had bought the car for $50 from someone who had already left the station. A station employee disputed that story.
Richmond was being held at the jail this afternoon with bond set at $30,000. He is set to appear in court April 8.
