We’ve got this request from our neighborhoods requesting that we grant rezoning that will limit the number of non-related persons living in a one-family home. We need to act on this.

“You put your right foot in.”

Yeah, but this is going to make some landlords who rent out these houses angry. They vote, you know. Let’s send this to a “committee” for a recommendation.

“You put your right foot out.”

OK, we’ve got the recommendation back, but the monkey is still on our backs. Let’s hold a town-hall meeting and maybe pass several laws that just might be construed as related to the main issue. Maybe folks will calm down.

“You put your right foot in, and you shake it all about.”

Well, we know what the neighborhood folks want and we know what the landlords want. We had a council meeting last night but ... I know, let’s study it some more. Have a town-hall meeting and talk about it some more. Maybe, some way, this issue will just disappear.

“You do the Hokey Pokey (Political Two Step) and you turn yourself around.”

Here’s another thought ... the people of Jacksonville might begin to wonder what’s going on with the City Council. I mean, some members are for the change, some are not, and a few are remaining silent to decide which way is the safest for them personally before committing one way or the other.

You know, the residents of Jacksonville might begin to wonder if we have their best interests at heart or are we just concerned about being re-elected.

“That’s what it’s all about.”
