A trooper at the scene did not offer further details on the crash, and wreckage after the crash didn’t reveal a clear picture of the chain of events.
An hour after the crash, a tow truck was still pulling a white Dodge Caravan up onto U.S. 431. Skid marks nearby indicated that the Caravan had plunged down a 20-foot embankment next to the highway’s northbound lane.
In the highway’s median, facing northbound, was a green Toyota Camry with a smashed left front, a deployed driver’s-side air bag, and a shattered rear windshield. A white Chevy Lumina, crushed near the right rear wheel, was being hauled away on the back of a tow truck.
