It’s time again for one of the most popular events at the Anniston Museum of Natural History: the annual plant sale, slated for May 7-8. One of the reasons the museum plant sale has been so popular over the years is because of the unique plants offered plants rarely found at retail garden centers. Most of the plants offered have been propagated from the museum’s own gardens, as well as from Master Gardeners, and even some specialty nurseries. Many different varieties of beautiful plants will be available.
Calhoun County Master Gardeners Tree Amigos Group will be on site May 7. Saturday’s sale will also feature plants from Northeast Alabama Orchid Society.
For the first time in the sale’s history, both days of the plant sale will be held off-site: browse and shop all the lovely plants at the future site of the Longleaf Botanical Gardens welcome center (former Lenlock Community Center) at the end of Museum Drive. Plant sale hours will be 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Call 256-237-6766 for more information.
Rock or run or walk around the park
On May 14, Anniston Rotary Club will host Rock Around the Park, a walk- or run-a-thon to raise funds for charities. The event, featuring a 5-mile course, will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Norwood Hodges Community Center in Golden Springs.
Everyone is invited to participate in the food, music and fun before and after the walk. While Rotarians will be walking, they invite EVERYONE to participate as well by running, walking or sponsoring a participant. Event sponsorship opportunities are also available.
Funds raised will benefit All Saints Center of Concern, Community Enabler, Interfaith Ministries, Red Cross, 2nd Chance, Soup Bowl, UCP, YMCA, Rotary Polio Plus Vaccinations, Fresh Water Wells and Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
To sign up, or for more information, visit Anniston Rotary’s website, www.annistonrotary.org, Anniston Noon Rotary Facebook page, e-mail club president Derek Brown at Derek@annistonrotary.org, or call project co-chairs Jerry Leake (256-238-6815) or Gary Schoenberg (256-282-6364).
What a great way to enjoy a spring day and get some exercise, all while raising much needed funds to support local and international needs. Put on your running or walking shoes, and head to the park!
