The world-famous Guy Lombardo’s Royal Canadians with Al Pierson will perform a big band concert and dance at the Oxford Civic Center at 7 p.m. May 19. While the orchestra had many hits from its inception in 1919 to Lombardo’s death in 1977, the band is most famous for performing “Auld Lang Syne” at New York’s Waldorf Astoria on New Year’s Eve. A recording of the song still plays as the first song of each New Year in Times Square.
The orchestra was revived in 1989 by dance bandleader Al Pierson and has toured all of the United States and 54 countries since.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. For more information, call 256-832-0000.
