Schools ponder weather-related graduation changes

With thunderstorms rolling in, local schools are wondering whether to have their graduation ceremonies inside or outdoors.

Officials at Alexandria High School said the school is now practicing for a ceremony in the school's new gym. The scheduled time is still 8 p.m.

Officials at Anniston High School haven't made the call on rain plans yet, though school officials said the event may be held in the school's auditorium.

Pleasant Valley High School will hold ceremonies at 8 p.m. in the school's stadium.

Piedmont's graduation will be held at Pete Mathews Coliseum in Jacksonville at 7:30 p.m. Oxford High will hold graduation at 7 p.m. at Lamar Field, with a possible change to an indoor location if the weather dictates. Saks seniors will graduate at 7 p.m. in the school's gym.

Weaver High School graduation has been moved to 1st Baptist Church of Weaver on Anniston Street. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and tickets will be required for entry. Students have already received their tickets. Overflow crowd will be placed in the gymnasium.

Wellborn's graduation will be on the Hill at 7 p.m., or in the school's gym if there's rain.

Ceremonies for White Plains High School will be held at 7 p.m. at Roberson Field. In the event of rain, the event will be held in the gym.

Ohatchee High's ceremony has been moved to the school gym. It starts at 6:30 p.m.
