Here’s a time when Alabama would be wise to invite in all the federal assistance it can stand.

Gov. Robert Bentley sees it that way — which is good. He’s requested a 60-day extension of a federal program called “Operation Clean Sweep,” a comprehensive tornado debris removal effort with Washington footing 90 percent of the bill.

Without the extension, the program ends next Tuesday — with debris remaining. In this case, Big Government is a-OK.
