Jacksonville High School will retire Anniston police Officer Justin Sollohub's football jersey number on Friday night during a pre-game ceremony.

Sollohub, who was killed in August while on duty, played linebacker for Jacksonville High and graduated from the school in 2002, according to Ellen Bass, who works in the special education department at JHS and is publicizing the event.

Sollohub’s family, as well as officers from the Anniston Police Department and other surrounding departments, are expected to be on hand when the school retires his number 55, and the public is invited.

Jacksonville plays Anniston High School at The Golden Eagle Stadium in Jacksonville, and school officials thought it would be the perfect time to honor Sollohub, Bass said.

Friday’s ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m.
