Droid RAZR — Motorola - $199 with 2-year contract

One of the more iconic phones of the mobile era was Motorola’s RAZR. The slick, colorful phone could be seen almost everywhere you went. The company is looking to bring their phone back to dominance with a new Android compatible handset.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get much time with the latest Gingerbread-enabled phone. I’ll hit the high points of my testing.

First of all, the RAZR is extremely comfortable to hold. This is a big deal considering the longer real estate needed to complement the phone’s 4-inch screen. Speaking of which, hard-to-penetrate Gorilla Glass is used to cover the display.

The slim body may worry some in terms of build, but lay those worries aside. The RAZR is one of the best-built phones I’ve had the pleasure to use. The construction is firm where it needs to be and everything falls into place.

I also focused my time on playing with the phone’s camera. It features an 8-megapixel still camera and can also shoot up to 1080p video. Everything works as advertised, and the experience remains very similar to other Motorola Android handsets.

The speed of the actual phone is also very impressive. Swiping between menus happens instantaneously for the most part. The lag that can be found in earlier Droid phones is nonexistent.

The addition of LTE Internet speeds is something most Verizon phones can boast about now. Unfortunately, I was unable to test this aspect of the phone because the area currently lacks support for 4G.

I was pleased with my limited time using Motorola’s Droid RAZR. I’d say it compares favorably to the Droid Bionic, another phone that I’ve used only briefly. The experience will only improve when the upgrade to the newest Android operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich, hits early next year.
