DOTHAN (AP) — Jurors have acquitted a south Alabama father in the death of his 4-year-old son, who died of heat exhaustion after being left in a vehicle last year.

The Dothan Eagle (http://bit.ly/GPR8RZ ) reports that jurors found 36-year-old Christopher Shawn Aldridge of Dothan innocent on Thursday.

Aldridge and 24-year-old Stephanie Coogle were arrested last June on felony manslaughter charges in the death of their 4-year-old son, Shawn Aldridge. Authorities say the boy died of heat exhaustion after being left in a Ford Explorer for about nine hours.

Aldridge's attorney calls the boy's death a "tragic accident." He says his client thought his son was with Coogle, the child's mother.

Coogle still awaits trial.
