A suspect is at large after robbing a bank in Oxford Friday, according to police.

A press release from the Oxford Police Department said an unknown male robbed the BBVA Compass bank on Quintard Drive around noon Friday, taking an undisclosed amount of money. As of 5 p.m. Friday, he had not been caught.

The release said the man handed the bank teller a note which demanded money. He then left on foot heading northeast towards Snow Street. Surveillance footage taken from the bank shows the suspect as a male in a black T-shirt and a white baseball cap. The release said the description given to officers at the scene identified the suspect as about 6 feet tall and also wearing jeans and white tennis shoes.

The press release said the man was not visibly armed at the scene of the crime, “but should be considered dangerous.”

Oxford police Lt. L.G. Owens said the bank immediately contacted police after the suspect left and closed while responding officers investigated the scene. It re-opened later that afternoon.

The Oxford Police Department has asked anyone with information to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 256-835-6136.
