A house fire early Wednesday morning killed a woman and injured two others in Weaver, according to police.

Joy Bachelor, 75, died of apparent smoke inhalation from a house fire on Parker Boulevard, said Calhoun County assistant coroner Shane Adrian. Her son, Michael, 57, as well as Michael’s grandson, a 3-year-old child, were airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, according to a press release from Weaver police Chief Wayne Bush.

Weaver firefighters responded to the fire around 3:30 a.m. according to the press release. They were assisted by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Anniston EMS and Jacksonville, Alexandria and Angel fire departments.

State Fire Marshal Ed Paulk said the child suffered from smoke inhalation but did not know the condition of either victim Wednesday afternoon.

Paulk said state Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the fire. That investigation will likely take several days, he said.
