The Anniston Star reported that fracking companies claim that all environmental regulations will be observed, and thus there is no danger to Alabama water from methane gas that is a byproduct of the fracking process.
The story neglects to mention that President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney in 2005 pushed through Congress the so-called “Halliburton Loophole” exempting fracking from regulations of the Clean Water Act.
Homeowners who live near fracking wells have found enough methane gas in their water to set it on fire. Look up “fracking” on YouTube.
Thousands of tanker trucks will be required to deliver water, sand and toxic chemicals to each well. Alabama 9 and other beautiful roads near and through the Talladega National Forest will have to support that traffic 24/7. Families and school children can forget the peacefulness of the Alabama countryside.
Alabama’s government will doubtless support the damage of our forest and the destruction of our wildlife for the benefit of giant corporations. Hunters and fishermen won’t count.
Authorities permit clear-cutting timber and now poisonous fracking. At the same time, they forbid riding horses in our national forests? This is an insult to our gallant land.
