An Anniston man was shot in the early hours of Sunday morning after fighting with a friend, police said. The man is expected to survive.

A 22-year-old male was shot three times with a handgun near the 1900 block of Rocky Hollow Road sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. Sunday, according to police reports. Anniston police Sgt. Josh Doggrell said the man was hanging out with a friend and got into a heated argument.

“The argument escalated to the point where he thought there was going to be a fight,” Doggrell said. “But instead he pulled out a handgun and started shooting at the victim and hit him three times.”

Doggrell said a relative took the man to Stringfellow Memorial Hospital where police were alerted of the incident. The victim was “uncooperative,” according to Doggrell, but did tell police the name of his attacker.

Doggrell said he did not know the condition of the man as of this morning. Police are investigating the incident.
