Carey Lamont Richardson, 21, of Oxford is seeking to bring attempted murder charges against Michael Anthony Brown, 23, of Anniston, according to Anniston police. Richardson is currently facing attempted murder and assault chargers for his role in the shooting.
Brown and Richardson are alleged to have been involved in a gunfight in the parking lot of Discount Food Mart on Noble Street sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on April 29, according to police reports. During the incident, a 38-year-old Anniston woman was shot in the chest and rushed to UAB Hospital in Birmingham with non-life threatening injuries. A press release from Anniston police said she was released later that week.
Anniston police arrested Brown hours after the incident on a felony assault charge connected to the shooting of the woman. He was released on a $15,000 bond from the Anniston City Jail on May 1.
Richardson was arrested May 3 and charged with assault for his alleged role in the shooting, as well as an attempted murder charge brought against him by Brown.
Richardson is now also seeking an attempted murder charge against Brown, according to police.
Anniston police Sgt. Josh Doggrell said the incident is still under investigation and the District Attorney’s office will decide whether to pursue the charge and issue a warrant for Brown’s arrest.
