No drilling in our national forest

As a resident of Cleburne County, I am very concerned about the proposed oil and gas leases in the Talladega National Forest. We do not want our environment ruined by possible “fracking” or any other type of drilling.

I am a voter and I want you to know that I will not vote for anyone who sits by and allows this to happen. The national parks system is suposed to protect land that has been set aside for, and owned by, the people of the United States of America.

Seven members of my family fought in the Revolutionary War, three in the War of 1812, four in the Civil War, one in World War I, five in World War II and two in Iraq. I feel like this qualifies us to be called Americans. Several of these veterans are buried at Upper Cane Creek Church cemetery, on the edge of the Talladega National Forest. Don’t they deserve to rest in peace? Don’t my children and grandchildren and I deserve a clean environment, clean water and unpolluted land?

There are other sources available for clean energy. In these mountains, wind and solar energy would be viable options and would be a lot less damaging to our environment. They would also be a more reliable financial investment.

I am a senior citizen now and totally disabled, but if life has taught me anything, it is that some things are worth fighting for. This is one of those things.

Stop this idiotic assault on our environment.

No drilling in the Talladega National Forest.
