Cutting costs in Alabama

I just got through reading a newspaper column by Steve Flowers, who evidently is well known for his work in the state Legislature years ago. His column told about how well off Alabama is doing now thanks to all the hard choices made by the Republican Legislature.

He brags about the fact that no taxes have been raised in our state. Someone needs to inform him that taxes have gone up in Anniston, along with skyrocketing house- and car-insurance premiums. In the last two years, since Gov. Robert Bentley and the Republicans have taken over, my bills have gone up, and all this cutting they have been doing hasn’t shown up in the form of extra cash flowing into my household.

The only thing I see is less state services offered to the public with higher fees in the private sector on the essentials and an increase in taxes. I thought with smaller government, our wallets would be bulging about now.
