The early winter of 1999 brought us Y2K, and it scared us: Computers worldwide would fail, planes would fall from the sky, and bank records would be lost. Modern Earth would grind to a halt.

Nothing serious happened.

Perhaps that’s why we’re not as concerned about the next apocalypse, which arrives Monday. The short version of a long story: On that day, a computer malware will cause tens of thousands of Americans to lose their Internet service.

Granted, this is no Y2K. It’s the real deal. The FBI says so, and it’s even publicizing a website (www.dcwg.org) that can check computers for the nasty virus. And, yes, it’s OK to fly Monday if you need to travel.

Our advice: The Internet is invaluable to all of us; disruptions aren’t good. So check your computers, keep calm and carry on, as they say.
