Many companies are starting to digitize their content in order to quickly share data and save on paper costs. Thus, scanners are becoming more and more popular as they are a huge catalyst in the process.

The standard scanner has been around for decades and is still a convenient way to get your files onto a computer. However, as technology improves, scanners are becoming smaller and more mobile.

NeatDesk, The Neat Company — $399

The Neat Company’s NeatDesk fits the role of the more traditional scanner. It plugs into your computer via USB and is launched with an installed program.

The NeatDesk’s biggest advantage of is the included software. This program picks up all the information on a particular document and organizes it. You can create digital records by scanning your receipts into the system. Business cards can also be organized digitally while allowing you to toss the paper copy.

Best of all, the NeatDesk software adds a searching mechanism to documents. This makes it easy to find specific data when a document contains a lot of pages.

Tax and expense reports can be created and the software also allows for the user to export data to Microsoft Excel, Quicken or TurboTax.

The scanner can handle up to 50 pages at a time at a staggering scan rate of 24 per minute.

The NeatDesk is an excellent traditional scanner that can do much more than you might expect. It comes at a pricey $399, which could be hard to swallow. However, the software alone is worth the price, and the increased digital organization is priceless.

Doxie Go, Apparent — $199

The ability to scan on the go is becoming more and more important as the digital revolution continues. Doxie Go is a great example of a mobile scanner done right.

Pressing the on button is all one needs to get the product up and running. You’ll be able to scan documents without needing a computer, wireless connectivity or a power cable. It’s completely mobile.

This scanner also features software that allows for creation of searchable PDFs and cloud sharing. When connected to a computer, the user can import scans to send out or store. A WiFi connection can sync your documents to mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad. Again, none of this is necessary to actually scan documents.

I was extremely impressed with the battery. You’ll be able to scan a ton of documents before needing to charge.

Storage is also not a problem. The company claims that up to 600 pages or 2,400 photos can be saved in the built-in memory. A USB drive or SD card can be inserted into the scanner for more storage if desired. This method also allows for easy sharing with people within an office setting.

The Doxie Go is a fantastic scanner that should be considered for those that travel and need a way to digitize their documents.
