The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of Central Alabama today.

The weather service says there is a slight change of damaging wind gusts and “marginally severe hail” as storms move east across Alabama today.

Weather service radar showed the line of storms at 1 p.m. just west of Birmingham, moving east.

The watch area includes Calhoun, Cherokee, St. Clair and Talladega counties, plus other Alabama counties to the west. The watch is set to expire at 8 p.m.
