What do you get a playful, clumsy, fire engine-red, house-sized dog for his 50th birthday?

We’d suggest a giant cake, and a bone, too.

Clifford the Big Red Dog celebrated his milestone birthday Monday. Heard nationwide were cheers from several generations of American children who learned to read by turning the pages of author Norman Bridwell’s stories about this lovable, unforgettable canine.

Though up in years, Clifford’s showing now graying of his skills. He’s still one heck of a dog. And children love him for it.
