Anniston police Investigator Roy Bennett said the driver of a 1999 black soft-top Jeep Wrangler, whom he declined to identify, while headed north on McClellan Boulevard tried to turn left onto U.S. 431 at a “high rate of speed” and flipped the vehicle on its side, where it came to rest in the left-hand southbound turn lanes for McClellan Boulevard. Medical personnel arrived on the scene at about 10:24 and took the driver to RMC, Bennett said.
“He was walking around,” Bennett said. “But you could tell he had lacerations.”
Bennett wasn’t sure how fast the driver had been going, but said he’d spoken to one witness to the accident.
Anniston police and firefighters answered the call and blocked traffic in the two turn lanes and the through lane while they cleaned up glass and trash from the scene and worked to remove the car. Only the right turn lane remained open while they worked.
