On Sept. 30, suspects used a forklift stolen from an Alexandria company to pry an ATM from the ground at a Regions Bank branch on U.S. 431, causing more than $3,000 in damage and making off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the machine.
A press release from the Anniston Police Department on Wednesday said the corporate security office of the bank authorized a $5,000 cash reward for information leading to a conviction in the crime.
Anniston police Lt. Fred Forsythe told The Star last week the theft bears resemblance to a crime in Lincoln from 2011. On Dec. 28, thieves were able to tear an ATM from the First National Bank of Talladega on U.S. 78 using a stolen forklift from a nearby construction site. In both incidents, the forklift was left behind at the scene of the crime.
Investigators said anyone with information on the theft should contact Anniston police at 256-240-4000.
