Even though Mitt Romney has, at least for now, stated his opinion that exceptions should be in place for instances of rape, incest or health of the mother, the GOP platform does not mention any such exceptions, and the vice presidential candidate believes there should be none. Paul Ryan recently said the position of his would-be boss is “a good step in the right direction” toward his own way of thinking.
The GOP platform also includes the plan to use a Republican Congress and presidency to restructure the “20th century entitlement state” by going through all federal programs, including Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and reviewing them based on Republican tests of constitutionality, effectiveness, necessity and importance to continue with “borrowed money.” Interestingly, the platform is silent on the cost of the Afghan war, Iraqi war and Bush-era tax cuts, all paid for with borrowed money.
With the stated goal of repealing the Affordable Care Act and leaving issues such as health care, poverty, education and environmental protection to the individual and/or the states, the GOP is attempting to wash the federal government’s hands of all responsibility to her citizens’ well being, once they are born.
Why does the Republican Party declare all human life, regardless of circumstances of conception, to be created by God and deserving of the full protection of the U.S. government, then abandon those same divinely created lives to a survival of the fittest, Darwin-inspired country once they are born?
