I have been a public servant for 50 years in my beloved Oxford in Calhoun County since the age of 10 years when I cut grass for an elderly lady. My official public service was for 22 years as a member of the Oxford City Council. I like to think I left a lasting mark upon God’s earth, but it cannot compare with the indelible legacy created by my dear friend, former state Sen. Doug Ghee, from Anniston.

“Forever Wild” and Doug Ghee are synonymous with public service dedicated to our Creator, the people of Alabama and generations to come.

The vision of Sen. Ghee was unlike any other in Montgomery. From the Walls of Jericho in north Alabama to Cheaha State Park to the Mobile basin, he saw that we, as a family, had to preserve and protect these wonderful venues. The voters overwhelmingly agreed.

Forever Wild was his vision for the future of this state. Forever Wild touches each of us. It is truly a divinely inspired piece of legislation.

On Election Day, you will decide if Forever Wild will continue to protect land in our great state. Please prayerfully consider what our life and lives of generations to come would be missing without Forever Wild. Forever Wild allows us to preserve a small portion of God’s beauty bestowed upon us. Let us keep Forever Wild for us and for those who follow.

Thank you, Sen. Doug Ghee, for your legacy. Now it’s our turn to keep it going. Please vote yes for Amendment 1 on Tuesday.
