As the mom of a senior player, I bawled all day for the last time for this and that. For pride. For everything. I also cried because my daughter has played the last three years for an amazing coach — one who has taught her so much about volleyball, sports and life, one who has given her so much confidence.
Coach Janice Slay is to be commended for her coaching prowess and for her ability to get the best out of this group of girls. She loves them, pushes them, fusses at them and loves them again even more. A good coach can read her girls and know how best to coach them, changing with the group and the individual. It is to Coach Slay’s credit that this team didn’t panic when faced with obstacles this season, and they came out on top again, losing only five matches — a total of 14 sets all season. There were times they had to fight their way back into the games, but they did. Coach Slay didn’t panic and neither did her girls.
We love you, coach, and we will miss our girl playing for you next year as she moves on. Thank you for our three fantastic years of Donoho varsity volleyball.
