Don Siegelman is completely innocent. He is in prison for taking money from Richard Scrushy to use for a state education lottery commission that would have given state college scholarships to underprivileged kids. Siegelman did not use this money personally.

Siegelman appointed Scrushy, a Republican, to the same medical board that three previous governors did, two Republicans and one Democrat. Yet, for this it is considered bribery and he is in prison?

Another strange twist to Siegelman’s case is that the George W. Bush-appointed federal prosecutor, Laura Canary’s husband, was campaign director for Bob Riley, Siegelman’s opponent in the governor’s race. And the Bush recessed-appointed judge that Siegelman came before was the same person who Siegelman investigated when he was attorney general.

Don Siegelman is not only an innocent man sitting in prison, he is obviously a political prisoner and should to be released immediately.
