The Major General Patrick R. Cleburne UDC Chapter 2632 recently presented Crosses of Military Service to Guy Turner and Dana Turner. Both are lifelong residents of Cleburne County. They are lineal descendants of James Turner who served as a Private in Company G 31st Alabama Infantry Regiment in the Confederate Army.

Guy Turner received the UDC World War II Cross of Military Service for his service as a technician 5th grade, Battery D, 104th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, U.S. Army. His son, Dana Turner, who served in Vietnam as a Staff Sergeant, Company C 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, U.S. Army, received the UDC Vietnam Conflict Cross of Military Service.

Chapter recorder of Military Service Jo Howard and chapter president, Lynda Lowery, conducted the ceremony. The Turner men’s wives, Dot Turner and Kala Turner, were also guests of the chapter at the meeting held at Classic on Noble.

The speaker for the meeting was Dr. Harriet Amos-Doss, professor of history at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The chapter held a canned food drive at the November meeting. Chapter members, Carolyn Skinner, Wilma Gosdin and Pat Harrington assisted with the project. Members donated approximately 300 cans of food to assist the Salvation Army with feeding those less fortunate in the Calhoun County area on Thanksgiving Day.
