The reason revenue from the recent sales-tax hike was disappointing is due to the already excessive sales-tax rate at 8 percent.

With the sales-tax rate at 10 percent, it now costs more to buy local than going online and paying shipping charges.

Another place that revenue is going is Georgia grocery stores. Food is not taxed in Georgia.

Food in Georgia costs less, ranging between 10 to 15 percent lower than Alabama grocery stores.

It’s well worth the 20-mile drive to Georgia to purchase groceries at an average of 25 percent less.
