In Calhoun County, the League for Animal Welfare, the Calhoun County Humane Society, and Friends of the Animals at the Calhoun County Animal Control (and others too numerous to list) work diligently to place animals in loving forever homes. Members of S.A.V.E. perform miracles as they assist our residents in having their animals spayed and neutered.
How can we help? It is not difficult. It is a matter of becoming people who take the plight of animals seriously. As a community, we must insist that facilities that care for homeless animals be funded adequately so they receive humane care. We can give of our own resources, whether through time or money, or both. We must encourage adoption by individuals who believe that having a pet is a serious responsibility. We can have our animals spayed and neutered to trim the population of unwanted animals and encourage others to do so.
Absolutely, say no to abuse and neglect and speak out when necessary, informing the proper officials if we suspect an animal is being abused. Lastly, say thank you to anyone who works for the welfare of our animals. They are truly heroes in our community.
