To accept the Simpson-Bowles plan as a remedy for our fiscal inability makes being in Washington too simple.

I suggest that it is not an issue of money. Having Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles become the source of information is a barrier. Our Congress and White House would not be comfortable with that presence. They would become “unquotable.”

So, why did Washington not accept the fiscal cliff? Why was Simpson-Bowles rejected?
