A local man was charged with multiple misdemeanors after leading police on a vehicle and foot chase Sunday morning.

Anniston police attempted to stop Horace Ray Jennings Jr., 39, of Anniston, for a traffic violation on Alabama 202 near Ledbetter Road Sunday morning, Sgt. Chris Sparks said. According to Sparks, Jennings refused to stop his vehicle and led police onto Old Birmingham Highway. He continued onto the 200 block of North Corning Street before jumping out of his car. Sparks said Jennings took off on foot and officers caught up to him in a wooded area on the 3200 block of Jefferson Street.

Sparks said Jennings had three boys -- a 15-year-old, a 14-year-old and a 9-year-old -- in the vehicle with him. Two of the boys were Jennings’ sons and the other a friend, the sergeant said. Police charged Jennings with two counts of domestic violence and reckless endangerment “due to the nature of the pursuit and danger he put the children in,” Sparks said.

Jennings was also charged with attempting to elude an officer and resisting arrest, Sparks said.

Jennings was in the Anniston City Jail as of Monday afternoon. Bond is set at $2,500 and a court date scheduled for April 24.
