JACKSONVILLE — Brinston Story scored 15 points, and Jared Millsap hit key 3-pointers in the second half to lead Ramsay to a 59-55 victory over Columbia this morning in the first Class 5A boys’ semifinal at the Northeast Regional tournament.

Ramsay (21-12) will play the Center Point-Fort Payne winner Friday at 5:45 p.m. at Jacksonville State University’s Pete Mathews Coliseum. Columbia finished its season 21-10.

Millsap scored all 11 of his points in the second half, hitting three of six 3-pointers. This after Columbia rallied from a 33-24 halftime deficit to take a 35-33 lead on Juwaun Lockett’s layup at 4:31 of the third quarter.

Millsap’s threes “were daggers,” Columbia coach Jeff Cooper said. “I don’t know how he got so open, but it happens, and this is the result.”

Ramsay also got 14 points from Evan Lewis.

Lockett led Columbia with 18 points. Damion Evans added 16 points and five of the Eagles’ 13 steals, which helped them rally to within 53-51 at 1:08 to play after falling behind by as many as 11 points earlier in the fourth quarter.

“Give a lot of credit to Columbia, because they fought back early in the third quarter,” Ramsay coach Kelly Cheatham said. “They made it a tough battle for the rest of the second half.”
