The Raiders (24-6) watched shot after shot rim out before finally getting on the scoreboard against the 10th-ranked Lady Warriors with 3:46 left in the first. The points came on two free throws by Laura Van Peursem. That was all Randolph was able to muster as Cherokee County (25-6) continued tacking on points, building a 20-2 lead before Anna Woodard hit a 3-pointer.
“Seventy-five percent of our practices goes to defense, and that’s what we’ve done the past three days,” Cherokee County coach Travis Barnes said. “I think at this point in the season what wins is defense, and that’s why we put a lot of emphasis on it.”
After the Lady Warriors took a 22-9 lead into halftime, they shot 71.4 percent in the second half, led by Darbie Rosser’s 23 points, to take away any shot of Randolph completing a comeback.
