Ramon Arias, the pizza franchise’s owner, said the shop at 815 Pelham Road S. was not open Monday, and he was unsure how soon it would be serving pizza again.
A young driver with a permit, Jacksonville firefighters said, apparently intended to drive backward but accelerated forward instead, crashing through the store’s glass front at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters said Sunday that one store employee was injured in the accident, but they did not know the extent of the injuries. No one in the vehicle was hurt, firefighters said.
Arias said Monday the employee received medical treatment for injuries, but he was not comfortable providing The Star with an update on the employee’s condition.
“We’re very concerned about our employee, but I can’t disclose his condition,” Arias said.
Arias said he also was unsure how much it will cost to repair the store’s damaged glass front and bent counter caused by the car careening into the business.
“We’re assessing the damage as we speak and we’re developing a plan,” Arias said.
