I have to say, I am surprised that Speak Out writer Stacey Burgess obviously doesn’t understand that “we the people” of this great country have a Constitution, which, in fact, separates church and state. That keeps your religion out of my politics. Get it? That’s what sets us apart (as a free nation) from the examples “of the majority” you spout in your letter.
In addition, I understand the current tiny fiefdom of Republicans in Montgomery (Goat Hill) who are beside themselves trying to circumvent this separation of church-and-state issue in Alabama. The display of the Ten Commandments or any religious text or anything religious has no place near our Statehouse (which would imply a church and state connection), period.
It would serve our good citizens of this state to have these “majority party” legislators and governor work in sync with our president to resolve the many pertinent, pressing issues at hand, as opposed to the folly evidenced so far.
