The bill allowing Sunday alcohol sales in Anniston caught Rep. Wood, R-Saks, off guard, or so he says. The measure, which was introduced by Wood’s colleagues — Del Marsh, R-Anniston, in the Senate and Barbara Boyd, D-Anniston, in the House of Representatives — was apparently a surprise to Wood. That’s enough to doom the bill’s prospects. (It’s worth mentioning that Reps. K.L. Brown, R-Jacksonville, and Steve Hurst, R-Munford, have also voiced opposition to the measure.)
Hey, now, Wood seems to be saying, give a fellow some time to warm up to the idea. Perhaps Anniston officials and the reluctant Rep. Wood could discuss it over drinks, so long as it’s not Sunday.
