Anniston Sgt. Chris Sparks said the fire originated in a utility room at a home on the 1900 block of Dellwood Court.
“The source of the fire was suspicious,” Sparks said.
Anniston fire Lt. Bryan Tumlin said firefighters responded to the call Saturday at 2:35 a.m. Tumlin said he could not release details on what started the fire because it’s still under investigation.
“We’re pretty confident it was not an accidental fire,” Tumlin said.
The blaze at the two-story brick duplex required four firetrucks to put out, Tumlin said. Three people were inside the home during the fire, he said, but no one was injured.
Tumlin was unsure Monday how much damage the fire caused, but said the home is unlivable because the flames damaged the roof.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Tumlin at 256-231-7650.
