Stephen Bradley Pruitt, 24, of Oxford, and William Lewis Alexander, 28, of Anniston, were both charged with second-degree theft, a felony, according to a police report.
Anniston Lt. Fred Forsythe said Pruitt and Alexander allegedly stole a Craftsman riding lawnmower worth $1,000 Monday morning from a home on the 4900 block of Old Birmingham Highway. Forsythe said a neighbor told police he saw two men steal the lawnmower and put it in a red pickup truck.
Forsythe said an investigation led police to discover Pruitt and Alexander had the lawnmower.
Pruitt and Alexander each paid their $5,000 and were released from the Anniston City Jail Thursday. A court date is scheduled for April 15.
