A woman was cut across her forehead with a knife Sunday morning by her niece, according to Anniston police.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said a 44-year-old woman told police she was assaulted Sunday morning at a home on the 5000 block of Wildoak Drive. The woman said she was arguing with her 24-year-old niece while the two were collecting clothes from the residence, George said. The victim bent down to pick up a shirt near the suspect’s food and was “slashed across the forehead” with a kitchen knife, the captain said.

The victim was taken to Regional Medical Center, George said, and received between eight and 10 stitches. She is expected to recovery from her injury.

The incident was still under investigation this morning, George said.

A suspect could be charged with second-degree assault, a felony, according to a police report.
