Police today were investigating a report of a car stolen from the Dixie Mart parking lot on Virginia Avenue N. in Wellborn.

According to Anniston police Capt. Allen George, the victim and a friend went to the store around 10:30 Saturday morning. The victim left his keys inside his car when they went into the store, George said.

George said the victim’s friend saw the suspect standing outside the Dixie Mart and pointed him out. When the victim and his friend left the store the suspect was driving away in the victim’s car.

George said the friend who was with the victim knows the suspect, and the victim has been in contact with the suspect for three days. George said the victim and suspect have communicated by telephone.

The victim said the suspect has agreed to return the car but still has not done so, George said.

The suspect could face charges of first-degree theft, a felony, according to a police report.
