A weekend wreck in Cleburne County claimed the life of two people, according to a state police report.

Thaddius “Tad” A. Martin, 22, of Heflin and Brittani R. Turner, 25, of Carrollton, Ga., were killed in a one-car wreck on County Road 66 about 7 miles east of Heflin. Martin was driving a 1997 Ford F350 when it went over an embankment, according to the police report.

The crash happened around 10:45 p.m. Saturday, but wasn’t discovered until Sunday according to the report.

Dennis Green, chief investigator for the Cleburne County Sheriff’s office, said the office received the call about 3 p.m. Sunday.

The state troopers called in Cleburne County Search and Rescue to get the victims out of the truck, Green said. Muscadine, Abernathy and Fruithurst firefighters also assisted, Green said.

The accident was still under investigation, according to the police report.
