According to Anniston police Capt. Allen George, the 71-year-old victim spoke with police at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for injuries Sunday.
The victim said she heard noises coming from the back yard of her residence on the 600 block of Sydney Circle and saw her son and his ex-wife arguing inside of the ex-wife’s car, the captain said.
George said the victim walked over to the open driver’s-side door, told her son to get out of the car and told the ex-wife to leave. When the ex-wife put the car in reverse and backed the car up, the open door struck the victim and knocked her to the ground, George said.
George said the ex-wife left the residence with the victim’s son still inside the vehicle. The victim called police and was later taken the hospital, George said.
George said the victim suffered from cuts on her shin and foot and a knot on the back of her head. Her injuries were not life-threatening, the captain said.
George said Monday that he did not know whether the victim would press charges. The suspect could face felony charges of second-degree assault, according to a police report.
